Life with a LaPerm

They love being held and stroked and often seek out laps, and they are active without being wild. They are quiet and adaptable. Kittens may go bald or change coat before the adult curls come in.

Great for
  • People who want a cuddly but not demanding cat
  • Families
  • People who want less cat hair around
Think twice if
  • You hope for allergy-free — they still make the allergen
  • You need a kitten soon — the breed is rare

Often suggested for people with allergies — but no cat is allergy-free. All cats make the main allergen (Fel d 1), and the amount varies from cat to cat. Spend an hour or more with the kitten and its parents before you pay.

Care tips
  • Comb lightly once a week; wet the coat to refresh the curls.
  • Avoid heavy brushing.
  • Play and climbing.

Health

Generally healthy. Pyruvate kinase deficiency (PK-def) has been found in the breed.

Ask the breeder for
  • PK-def DNA test
  • Parents’ vet records
Typical US price$1,000–$2,000
RegistriesCFA · TICAAsk for both parents’ papers

Prices are rough ranges from registered breeders and vary by line, color and region. A much cheaper “purebred” kitten is a common scam sign.
