At a glance
Life with a Toyger
They are sociable and trainable and enjoy fetch and leash walks, but they are calmer than Bengals. Most get along with kids and other pets.
- Families with kids
- Multi-pet homes
- People who want an exotic look with an easygoing nature
- You need a kitten soon — the breed is rare, with waiting lists
- You’re away all day and there’s no other pet
- Weekly brushing.
- Daily play.
- Indoor life.
Health
A young, small breed and generally healthy; some heart murmurs have been reported. Because of Bengal ancestry, Bengal DNA tests are worth asking about.
- Heart scan (echocardiogram) of the parents
- PK-def DNA test
- PRA-b DNA test
Prices are rough ranges from registered breeders and vary by line, color and region. A much cheaper “purebred” kitten is a common scam sign.
